Re: Porch progress...
"the hardest thing about putting down the “stuff” isn’t actually the putting down of the “stuff”…rather…it’s the staining of the stuff" I've learned this along the line this summer too. The building of something for outdoors is not the toughest part, or the most time consuming. The stainin...

wletson, I like the wall color you chose! Thanks! I have had a lot of visitors in the past few months ask for the name of the colors I have chosen. Beyond every comment made, that makes me feel like I have made good decisions. (I had one couple get the complete color scheme for my kitchen. Includin...

Re: Third time's the charm
I always had a warm neighborly feeling over at OHW (though people got real testy about window replacement, snicker...) and wavyglass....here at THD, it's more like sitting around a woodstove drinking hot cocoa (laced or unlaced) with friends after helping them shovel their roof from the 3 feet of n...

"The heat was the real killer though. Sunday I got the saws/etc out, measured and cut a few boards, put them down, stained a new batch, and then found myself shaking and weak. Decided I must be getting old and put everything up and took the rest of the day off." Yup, been there this summer...

We add to it every year...but the earliest was a spider web I wove out of rope light... [/img] Dan, I love the idea of the rope light spider web. Looks awesome. (I don't need to say the spider is Wicked Awesome!) This is the first house I have lived in where I get the kids, so I was caught flat-foo...

Hallowe'en, and what you do at your old house...
So, last year I had only been in my house for less than a month when Hallowe'en happened. I had been painting, thinking, planning house and never gave much thought to outdoor décor leading up to Hallowe'en. About a week before Oct. 31, I asked one neighbour how many kids I should expect and he said ...

Slowly, I will start posting in this thread, and will start my own post shortly (again) about the progress on my house. This installment I will entitle "What a difference a paint makes" This was my fireplace when I first moved in. The house was built in 1948. The trim was cheap at the time...

Re: Modern kitchen features
Don't apologize for the new cabinets! At least they look nicer than what was there. As an idea for your backsplash, here's a suggestion. Tin ceiling, or tin ceiling trim.. This is what I'm doing along part of my countertop. The area behind the range will be full pieces of tin ceiling. It may not be ...
