Re: Our 1916 Craftsman

Thanks for the compliments. I feel a bit dishonest in taking credit, as the contractor (not sure what to call him - he's an excellent painter, but also does handyman-type tasks) did the vast majority of the work. He was in there for a few works stripping paint and repairing plaster (there were some ...

Re: New resident in our old house

Thanks, everyone - I'll be sure to educate him on proper hand and power tool usage as soon as possible (his two-year-old brother already knows which way to turn to tighten a screw).

Re: New project

I've created the new forum: - Guest and search engine bot access is disabled. I don't want to appear that we're trying to increase our search engine ranking by adding an influx of new content. - Replies are not allowed. The entire thread should be included in a single post. If a poster would like to...

Re: New project

Sounds good. I'll make a separate forum when I'm on my desktop.

Re: Our 1916 Craftsman

In preparation for baby Thomas's arrival, we recently renovated one of the bedrooms for our older son, Matthew, to move into. We were fortunate to be able to hire a contractor to do most of the work, but I made sure to stay involved. I need to be better about taking pictures during future projects -...

Re: What to do about condensation in bathroom??

I don't see what good a heater with the fan is going to do. Agreed. Raising the temperature in the room would lower the relative humidity (warmer air holds more moisture), it isn't the correct solution to address condensation. In fact, it could exacerbate the problem on outside walls and windows, s...

Re: What to do about condensation in bathroom??

Looking at the specifications for a couple of 150 CFM models with built-in lights, it looks like they wouldn't draw more than an amp or two. It's a completely different game if you add a heater, though - a 1500W heater would absolutely require its own circuit. Unless you're showering in cold water, ...

Re: What to do about condensation in bathroom??

Yikes. In your case, I'd consider having an electrician do the wiring - they might come up with a better route to run new wires (a good electrician can do a masterful job of fishing wires while causing minimal damage), or they might verify that the existing wiring is adequate after all. Depending on...

New resident in our old house

I haven't been very active here for the past week - our second son, Thomas Christopher, was born last Tuesday, March 12. Everyone is doing well, and big brother Matthew couldn't be more helpful or proud. We were able to get Matthew's new room finished in time for Thomas's arrival, and Matthew decide...
