It's also crucial for those of us in snow country - an improperly vented/insulated roof will have icicles and ice dam problems.

Re: Looking for advice on insulating our attic

We went the spray foam route for our house. We were also re-roofing, so we had to decide whether to improve the (basically non-existent) ventilation or seal it up. We don't have any plans to use it as living space, but we did have some other factors in our decision: - Hip roof and low-hanging eaves ...

Re: Sidewalk Ideas

We don't have a sidewalk other than the city one (technically ours, but has to be concrete), but we do shovel part of our patio, which is made of brick pavers. Shoveling is a tad more difficult than concrete (the shovel gets caught occasionally), but not too bad. We only have a little bit to do, tho...

Re: Interlocking metal weatherstripping - pros & cons

We did interlocking on the three windows we restored in January - absolutely love the results. Even without the hardware reinstalled yet (too many other projects in the way - and now I have a new lawn tractor to play with...), the windows are tight and draft-free - even the window that is missing a ...

I think Kilian sells the Dorbin brand weatherstripping as well - at least the model numbers and diagrams are identical. I didn't order from them because they didn't have some of the pieces in long enough lengths.

Re: Christian Haldeman Jr. Farm (1773 - 1779)

Regarding your weatherstripping question: I ordered a bunch from Architectural Builders Supply. They carry Dorbin weatherstripping. Their web site was terrible (very slow, prone to losing my shopping cart contents if I wasn't quick enough), but the service was good.

Re: Christian Haldeman Jr. Farm (1773 - 1779)

That is an absolutely beautiful house. I love the old houses in PA - when I was growing up, my grandparents had an 18th-century house in Quakertown (near Allentown), and more recently an early 19th-century house near Gettysburg. My old house is a baby by comparison - but the oldest building in Grand...

Re: I've done been banned perminantly from OHW!

It probably wasn't intentional - I'm guessing that they're attempting to ban spammers by IP block. It's easy to cause collateral damage with that method. Unfortunately, most spambots are on virus-infected computers - it's not like there's a company that has a server farm, all on a contiguous range o...

Is that a requirement for after each project, or each window? :)
