I have a real question tonight, too.
I just had a cheap coat of paint put on the house to appease the city code enforcement officials. Now that this is done, some of the exterior flaws have become more apparent.
The biggest (I think) is that I noticed that the eaves have sagged over the years, and where the raking cornice meets the flat cornice on the sides of the gables, I have a 2-3" gap! You can see it in this picture, but I've seen it in the back, as well.
How concerned should I be about this, and how would you address it, without having to completely rebuild all of the eaves? The horizontal tin (it might even be copper--I've found a scrap piece in the attic that appears to be copper) flashing seems to be in good shape, and runs way under where the raking cornice and flat cornice meet. So, I'd rather preserve that if I can, too.
Any thoughts?
