Just a look at my latest restoration. Table made in France. Appliques seem to some kind of gold alloy.

Beautiful piece. In cases like that where it's not a refinish, are you doing a general clean up with any needed adjustments or replacements of hardware on the piece over all?

A restoration is when as much of the original piece as possible is saved. The finish is restored, sometimes with a new coat of the same. If hardware needs to be replaced, originals are found, or replicas made.

In this case, it was in good shape except the front right leg was broken. It was repaired and new veneer applied. The finish was cracked. It was cleaned, lightly sanded, and a new coat of the same type put over it (lacquer).

Got it. Thank you for explaining the difference.

For a long time, I've been fix it so it doesn't need fixing again soon more than crafting a fix to last. Now that I'm trying to get back to the latter, I second guess a lot about most anything involved, sometimes needlessly.

Well, once again Al, you prove that there still is pride of craftsmanship out there. Well done, worthy of the title of master craftsman. And your not the only one here in the district.
