I'm guessing most of you are from WaveyGlass, so I will keep it short I am restoring an old stone farmhouse, German construction, in northern MD. I just dated the downstairs to the 1830s and upstairs around 1870s, with a 1950s addition...and as it turns out, the 1950s addition will take the most work/money to renovate....structural issues abound! This is a labor of love for me, and I really just can't wait to get to the point where I can move in and live in (at least part of) my house full-time.
I only recently moved from OHW to WaveyGlass, so I'm really hoping this one sticks!! If anyone is continuing to use WaveyGlass, there might be some redundancy from me from time to time, at least for now

Hi,
I too love those style of stone houses, something I can appreciate coming from a family of Italian stone masons, from the SE Pennsy, Philly area.

Re: 1830s Vernacular Stone House
Thanks all! I've been doodling stone houses in notebooks since elementary school, so it was meant to be The stone is very local; that type of brown coloring is typical of the field stone a half mile up the mountain at the devil's racecourse, by the Appalachian trail. Lots of historical references to using it to build local houses...all the stone houses on the mountain are made from it, which gives the area some continuity of character that is really very nice.
I think my floors will be sanded this weekend, so I'll be posting some update photos soon!
