Re: Will I burn my house down with a heat gun?

As with anything, common sense applies. Heat guns are excellent for stripping paint, but don't hold it in one place for very long. Just like you'll burn your scalp if you hold a hair dryer in one place, you'll scorch wood if you hold the heat gun still. I've never heard of anyone actually burning d...

Will I burn my house down with a heat gun?

I'm redoing my window, stripping, repainting, glazing, and cording. They were all painted shut and contain about 6 layers of paint. A lot of the detail on the casing has been lost because the paint is SO thick on there. I'd also like to remove the paint from the channel(?)(the part the window actual...

Re: Replacing a switch with a dimmer

I got it figured out. I realized I had grabbed the wrong type if switch, so I went back to home depot to swap it out and saw an employee in the aisle and asked him. He said all I should need was a single pole switch and the black to black was fine, which was what the hookup was on the back of the sw...

Replacing a switch with a dimmer

I'm replacing my dining room switch to a dimmer switch. Currently there are 2 switches, if youre looking at the switch, the right one turns the light on and off and the left one does nothing. The right one will work regardless of the position of the left switch. I'm guessing at one point they had a ...

Re: Help! My historic neighborhood is in trouble!

It seems that everyone around here is a little weary in helping, at least publicly. The owner of the land behind us has their hands in everything. I got a call last night from a reliable source saying that the developers were completely nixing the idea of a fire gate. The city probably told them the...

Re: Help! My historic neighborhood is in trouble!

This subject is literally all I can think about. Theres so many ways to approach it, its just choosing the right one I did some serious stalking of the land owners behind my home today. They have a personal home and property up for sale (possibly all sold) a few miles down the road in a high end nei...

Re: Help! My historic neighborhood is in trouble!

We could have stood up at zoning but no one did, I think that's more of a city council debate. Im going to come up with a better speech for the city council meeting now that I see how they go. The Holder project (the one we want) Is far superior in every aspect. Leaving the street this morning I not...

Re: Help! My historic neighborhood is in trouble!

There's two competing projects because they're both going to be built with state grants. But only one grant per county every three years can be chosen, and if one is chosen it's likely that during the next three year cycle the other one will still not get chosen. We had the neighborhood meeting and ...

Re: Help! My historic neighborhood is in trouble!

It came around that he speak for our "conditions" because the land owner and developer said its best to look unified and have one speaker, then they kind of asked if anyone wanted to do it, he said he would and other residents agreed. I still think everyone felt like they tumbling around i...

Re: Help! My historic neighborhood is in trouble!

He has a house but I think its his secondary home and he would not be hugely impacted like the rest of us via where his lot sits. My neighbor and I seem to think hes got his hand in the cookie jar somewhere. He just acts odd about it all. Everyone at the meeting tonight said theyd be at the zoning m...
