Re: Why is my paint bubbling?
My next door neighbors had a problem with their oil based paint a few years back. They contacted the paint company and they sent somebody out to diagnose the problem for them. If it happens again, maybe call the paint company.

Re: What is going on with this wood?
But there is no "heart maple", it's the same color all the way through. Some kind of white pine, perhaps western "ponderosa pine" Pine can have curly/quilted/birdseye figures too. Casey Ahhh, see I'm not familiar with western pine. I doubt there is much of that here in WI. My gue...

Re: What is going on with this wood?
I'm NOT a wood expert, but your door looks more maple than cherry to me,just based on what I can see in the pic,and my limited experience. It does not look like Oak,Pine,or Fir to me.
Next time you're at the house take a closer, clearer pic,and I'm sure somebody here can figure it out.

Re: What is going on with this wood?
Sapwood is from the outer areas of the tree (close to the bark) Heartwood is the the older inner part of the tree, Heartwood USUALLY tends to be darker or redder than the sapwood.

Re: What is going on with this wood?
Personally,I wouldn't change a thing. If you didn't point out the fact that some panels are much darker than others I would not even have noticed. All I see is beautiful pocket doors. On the subject of the Cherry wood. I have a 12' long Amish made kitchen table made out of solid cherry (Hey,I have 7...

Re: Am I missing a post?
Pic of a house I used to own. Notice the posts are not equally offset from the stairs-the posts are spaced out evenly across the porch. JMO,but I'd say that your "empty" platform is just to make it look more symmetrical. http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee312/drake1965/misc013_zps3fc3677...

Re: My heart is broken
Exactly what I was thinking when I posted earlier. Of coarse it pains me to see people do this to their home, but it is THIERS! Looking at it from the street is one thing, walking up on the porch and snapping a pic of the inside through the window goes over the line, regardless of if somebody is home o...

Re: My heart is broken
A shame yes,but if my neighbors took pics of the interior of my house through my front door,I'd be calling the cops, but that's just me.

Re: More on LED bulbs...
A few years back I was reading a thread on a different site I belong to. One of the members there used to be an engineer at GE. He told the story about how when they designed new/different bulbs they were instructed to design a failure date into them. How long these bulbs last is calculated into the...
